A Lady Travel Group: Why I LOVE Girls LOVE Travel
Have you heard of the lady travel group on Facebook called Girls LOVE Travel? It’s a community for womxn who love to travel. (And it might just be one of my favorite things on the internet). I’ve been a member for about 3 years now, and it’s literally opened my eyes even wider to the world we live in. And that’s just ONE of the reasons I love it so much! Here’s just a few more reasons why I LOVE the lady travel group Girls LOVE Travel…
Because All Womxn Are Included.
I’ve referred to it as a lady travel group but to be clear Girls LOVE Travel, or GLT for short, is a place for ALL womxn. If you love to travel and were born female, identify as female, have become female, or any scenario I may have missed or combination of the above, this group is for you. Furthermore, this group includes womxn from ALL over the WORLD! How cool is that?! I LOVE being a part of a travel community that includes not only all womxn but also all nationalities as this makes for a diverse group where everyone has unique backgrounds, attributes, and experiences to offer each other.
Because This Group of Womxn Loves to Travel as Much as I Do.
How cool is it to be a member of a group where everyone is just as passionate about something as you are? EVERY SINGLE DAY I’m inspired by pictures, stories, itineraries, and more that show up in my Facebook feed from Girls LOVE Travel. My friend Trish (aka my travel sister) and I are constantly tagging each other in posts and saving them for future reference when we travel to those places.
Furthermore, If I’m planning a trip to a place I’ve never been, what better place to ask for recommendations and answers to my questions than a group of over a million travel lovers? My experience has been that multiple people ALWAYS have the answers I’m looking for.
One of my mom’s favorite travel memories actually started as a recommendation from Girls LOVE Travel. I asked the group if anyone knew of any small villages with good leisurely bike riding paths in the Netherlands. Someone suggested visiting Nuenen, the town where Vincent Van Gogh lived and painted in his early years. We took that suggestion and it was absolutely PERFECT. We rode bikes along a marked trail that highlighted all the van Gogh related sites in the town, and even now, a few years later, my mom still regularly talks about how fun it was. I never would have known about that little gem if it hadn’t been for GLT. 💖
Because There’s a List of Rules and Expected Behavior for the Group and a Fabulous Mod Team That Enforces Them.
With a group of over a million members you’d think there would bound to be some drama, right? Girls LOVE Travel has clear rules and expectations for what is and isn’t permitted in the group. And above all I’d say respect and kindness are tied for the #1 most important rule. The hashtags #gltrespect and #gltlove are even frequently used as reminders! Furthermore, there’s no self promotion, no posts allowed that aren’t related to travel, and a dedicated team of moderators who enforce these rules and “clean up” posts as necessary. You don’t have to worry so much about drama in a group so large when there’s a clear system in place to avoid it.
Because GLT Trips and Meet Ups Are Regularly Posted and Executed.
Want to go on a trip with a group of ladies who love to travel as much as you do? Want to take a trip somewhere but aren’t totally sure how to do it on your own? Join a GLT trip to Antarctica! Or Finland, or Egypt, or Tanzania. (You get the idea). 😉 Trips to destinations all around the world happen regularly and it’s a great place to meet fellow travelers and make new friends. I joined a GLT trip to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and it was an experience I’ll never forget. Not only because the balloon fiesta itself was fabulous, but because the travel-lovin’-ladies I was with made the experience that much more memorable. On more than one occasion I had the thought, “These are my people.” 😊 I look forward to taking more trips with GLT in the future.
Because There’s a Subgroup Called “Overnight (girls love travel)” For Meeting Up Outside of Official GLT Trips and Meetups.
Want to find some other GLT members to meet up with in the city you’re traveling to? Maybe find a spare room or couch to crash on and be hosted by a fellow GLT? The GLT subgroup called “Overnight” is the place for that! This subgroup is only a few months old and I’ve already heard numerous success stories about GLTers getting in touch through it. I haven’t used this group yet myself but I look forward to doing so on my upcoming travels. 😊
Becuase Haley Woods, the Founder of Girls LOVE Travel, is an Exceptional Leader.
Maintaining a Facebook group of over 1 million womxn (and counting!) is no easy feat, and still Haley does it with ease. It’s she who created the group’s guidelines, brought on moderators, and works with various companies and contacts to organize GLT trips. And those are just a few of her tasks that I KNOW of. I can’t imagine how much more she does for the group behind the scenes! I consider myself lucky to have met Haley in person. She’s kind, hardworking, has every desire to support and empower womxn, and is exactly the leader that was (and continues to be) needed to create, grow, and support a Facebook group like Girls LOVE Travel.
So if you’re a womxn and you’re not a member of this fabulous Facebook group, I encourage you to join. Girls LOVE Travel will always be a special place for me. I will ALWAYS be grateful for the positive qualities, features, and above all people it brings into my life. 💖
Safe travels friends.
