For as long as I can remember my dad has been interested in WWII history. He had always dreamed of seeing Germany and some time after I became a flight attendant we talked about us taking a trip there together.
My dad called me one day and said he was looking at a map and noticed Munich is really close to Salzburg. He said he was pretty sure Salzburg is where the Sound of Music was filmed and asked me if I knew for sure if that was the case. (I wasn’t 100% sure at the time, but I was probably about as confident as he was.) My dad told me that since he knew how much *I* love the Sound of Music and since we would be so close to Salzburg anyway while we were in Munich that we should make a little stop there and do a Sound of Music tour. (Because he knew **I** would really enjoy it.) But he said he’d come with me of course because he wouldn’t want for me to have to go on the tour alone… (Hmmm… 🤔 Does this sound a little suspicious to anyone else…..?) I finally asked my dad if HE wanted to go to Salzburg and do a Sound of Music tour and I don’t remember his exact answer but I think it was something like… “Well… I mean…. only with you… because I know YOU’D really like it…” (Hmmm… ok dad…..😉)
Not long after that conversation my mom and I took a trip to Europe and ended up on a Sound of Music tour in Salzburg. My dad insisted he didn’t mind but I still felt a little sad that he wasn’t there… (You know, since he had been so nice to volunteer to go with me in the first place… Since he knows **I** love the Sound of Music so much…😉😉) So the following year when my mom, dad and I did a WWII history trip (mostly) through Germany my mom and I told my dad that we loved Salzburg and the Sound of Music tour we did SO much that we HAD to go back on this trip and see it all over again. My dad’s response was, “Ohhhh ok! Yeah, I wouldn’t mind going back with you guys! You know, so you could see all that stuff again…” (What a trooper, right?!?! 😉😉)
So Mumsy and I got to do the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg again and my dad was nice enough to come with us. (And he never even complained about it! 😉) I even may or may not have caught him singing along to the Sound of Music soundtrack when they played it during the bus ride… 😉
I really hope there’s other people who have the opportunity to travel with their parents and enjoy it as much as I do. 😊
Safe travels friends.
