2 Day Washington DC Itinerary: Cherry Blossom Edition
I had always wanted to see the cherry blossoms during peak bloom in Washington DC. But it wasnāt until recently that I was finally able to make it happen! (And it was just as dreamy as I imagined it would be š). I learned a few tidbits on my quest to chase peak bloom in DC and Iām going to share them here with you in case they can help you on your quest to see the blooms. Because if you ever have the opportunity to visit DC during peak cherry blossom bloom, I *highly* recommend it. š Here’s everything you need to know for ayour 2 day Washington DC itinerary: cherry blossom edition.
My Tidbits:
šø The cherry blossoms typically bloom sometime from the end (ish) of March to the beginning (ish) of April. (Although I read that the trend in recent years has been that theyāve bloomed in March.)
šø Keep an eye on when the blossoms are expected to reach peak bloom. (It was easy to find this information on Google.) They stay in peak bloom for about 3-4 days which is when youād ideally like to see them.
šø I recommend flying into DCA. The metro is connected to the airport and makes it super easy to get into the city.
šø The majority of the blossoms are around the Tidal Basin and Washington Monument. Theyāre easy to find on your own but I used the app recommended in this tweet and found it was super useful.
I did the self guided tour of the cherry blossoms which covered the places I would have gone anyway, but it gave some interesting info and tid bits too which was cool.
šø Visit the blossoms in the morning/afternoon on a week day if possible as it gets insanely crowded during after-work-hours and weekends. š³ Exhibit A:
šø Rent a āCapitol bike Shareā bike (youāll find them EVERYWHERE) and go for a ride around the Hains Point Peninsula. The entire route is lined with cherry trees and itās beautiful. š
Hereās some of the MANY pictures I couldnāt stop taking of all the blossoms while I was there. š
Happy cherry blossoming, happy spring, and as always safe travels, friends! š¤
